Vision

What is the vision of the ESG Clearing House?

Our vision is that sustainability data will needs to meet the same quality standards that already apply to financial data. Four aspects of data quality stand out: 1) reliable, 2) comparable, 3) complete and 4) timely. These quality requirements will impact the usage and distribution of sustainability data and will be reflected in the requirements for internal process flows, system integrity, auditability and the external gathering, distribution and exchange of sustainability data.

How did the ESG Clearing House initiative come about?

The initiative started when 3 organisations came together to talk about the challenges in ESG Data sharing. After a market assessment, they saw no common solution for ESG data sharing that matched their requirements and expectations. The idea was, rather than wait for an initiative to appear, to start the ESG Clearing House, based on principals they deemed important and missed in the current market offerings.

What is the scope of the ESG Clearing House?

The scope of ESG Clearing House is focused on the exchange of (1) standardised sustainability metrics, including (2) text or (3) blocks of data and including public, aggregated and also (4) specific, private and B2B transaction-related metrics, between Participants.

Given the peer-to-peer exchange, the ESG Clearing House is envisaged to be mostly used for exchange ESG-metrics and related information which is specific to the B2B relation of the pair of Participants who exchange the information. An example can be that a large corporation needs transaction-specific ESG related metrics from their supply chain partner to be able to calculate their GHG Scope 3 emissions.

The ESG Clearing House is standards agnostic and aims to support as much ESG metrics as our Participants require. We recognize that specific combinations of ESG metrics result in standards, like for example GRI. The ESG Clearing House will remain standards agnostic.
